Arrived when it opened. Not a busy Saturday. Ordered two sandwiches. Tea. Some fries for appetizer. Had to ask for beverage refills. Sandwiches were sloppy and mediocre at best. Order was wrong. Ordered salad with sandwich since already had fries. Got fries, no salad. Waitress had to be retrieved twice by hostess. By that time the tip was no longer an issue. 42$ for sandwiches and tea, not busy, I expect good service and good food. To top it off it was a treat lunch for my mom's birthday. AWFUL.
The food is always good but I hate the butcher paper on the tables at lunchtime.
Very nice place! Cloth tablecloths and napkins, professional staff. High quality food, speciality drinks, all beautifully served. You will feel more comfortable if you are just a tad dressed up.
Love the rotating menu, but hate when I have something marvelous and it disappears quickly. Had the best cheek meat recently and couldn't wait to have it again. It had rotated off within just a few weeks. Sometimes the menu seems to be trying too hard, but there are always things that appeal and are beautiful in presentation. Not compatible with large groups because of the noise level. I try not to take a group of more than 5 for business dinners.
The restaurant is excellent, easily among the best in Oxford. However, the shining star is the bar upstairs. It's a local watering hole with great, simple drinks that are cheap. The atmosphere is laid back and you're sure to meet some friendly locals, including artists, musicians, and writers. Go for a little taste of local color!
